Spirit tastings in Oregon are currently limited to a half ounce per tasting, with no more than two ounces total including mixers. The OLCC reviews special event permits to allow tastings at events away from distilleries.
From the NY Times: Crates of whisky and brandy were unearthed this week from beneath an Antarctic hut used by the polar explorer Ernest Shackleton over a century ago. Apparently Mr. Shackleton understood the importance of keeping valuables safe.
Iowa House Subcommittee Approves State Biodiesel Mandate: A bill that would require all diesel fuel sold in Iowa to contain 5% biodiesel is making its way through the Iowa Legislature.
In addition, Portland is doing an experiment in collecting food waste for large scale compost. In order to keep corn prices from continuing to rise to support subsidies like Iowa’s plan, we need a way to collect household oil/garbage and turn it into ethanol and biodiesel.
